Name That Tune or Die! Ramon Cabrera does not tolerate musical ignorance, even from close
friends. Cabrera, 48, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was hanging out one
day with his pal, David Saenz, 57, a local character who often
sang for his neighbors, accompanying himself on his guitar or
accordion. Cabrera requested what was apparently a special song,
"El Guajolote" ("The Turkey"). Saenz said he didn't know the tune,
but Cabrera was insistent. And he wasn't even drunk, he told police
later. Whether Saenz really didn't know "The Turkey" or just wanted
to stick with standards like "Lady of Spain," we'll never know.
Cabrera went back to his home and returned with a .38-caliber
pistol. "He told people to move out of the way, then drilled him
with the .38 right in the forehead," Nueces County Assistant DA
Mark Skurka said. Despite the accuracy of his shot, Cabrera later
said he didn't remember shooting his friend. A jury sentenced him
to 99 years in prison. However, he'll be back in the gene pool in
30 years if he wins parole. Unless he criticizes the wrong musician
