According to this week's South China Morning Post, a young 19-year-old
Chinese tiger keeper was mauled to death by four tigers at the Jinan Animal
Park. Police assumed that Xu had tried to defecate in the cage after finding
some toilet paper, excrement and a trouser belt. Xu Xiaodong had either
slipped or was pulled into the cage by one of four Bengal tigers. Police
arrived to find Xu bitten in the neck and lying on the ground. He was
surrounded by four angry tigers. Police said it was probably the "smell"
that made them pounce.
