Out With The Old
One Sunday afternoon, Yuri Kohiyama, her seven-year-old daughter and family
friend, Namiko Ogura, were involved in an auto accident with a station
wagon at a local intersection. In the commotion, four police officers
and three firemen hurried to rush the injured mother and daughter to the
local hospital for light head injuries.
Their car was taken to the local junkyard for disposal. Six hours later,
The Kohima's family members came to the local junkyard to retrieve some
personal belongings from Yuri's trashed vehicle. They quickly noticed
a forgotten personal item - their friend Namiko.
66-year-old Namiko Ogura was found face down on the back seat - dead.
Although the windows were blown out in the accident, four police and three
firemen failed to see Namiko in the back seat. An autopsy revealed she
was killed on impact. Police apologized to her family for the "grave"
oversight.
